Toledo Vape Shop Profile and the Return of Antifreeze

e-Cigarette store profiles. They tend to crop up all over the place and generally follow a formula. Interview someone who stopped smoking via vaping who then turned around and opened an e-cigarette shop. Then there’s usually interviews with customers. Finally, some sort of health official chimes in with the downside. How harsh the “balance” to the story is varies. This particular article found someone who is trying to resurrect the antifreeze argument.

“There are fewer chemicals in e-cigarettes and no carbon dioxide is emitted. Those certainly would be a reduction in harmful inhalants,” said Holly Kowalczk, a registered respiratory therapist at Promedica St. Luke’s Hospital. “However, some of the brands still contain harmful chemicals, such as diethylene glycol, which is used in antifreeze.”

Ms. Kowalczk, who also is a certified tobacco treatment specialist, said it’s unlikely that using e-cigarettes as a means to quit smoking will cure a smoking addiction.

I guess this points out that local health officials often hear about something, assume it to be true and then moves on. Antifreeze is so 2009, people. Don’t you know it’s all about the evil tobacco companies and gateways to real smoking?
